Who We Are
WHO WE ARE
From our humble beginnings in Carmel, Indiana in 1977 to today, Shepherd Insurance has grown into one of the Top 50 largest independent insurance agencies in the country. We provide insurance & employee benefit solutions throughout the country and have received numerous awards for our growth, leadership and our amazing workplace culture.
Dave Shepherd started Shepherd Insurance in 1977. With the encouragement of his father, Bill Shepherd, he began selling life insurance soon after graduating from the University of Mississippi. From there, he expanded the business to include personal and business insurance solutions. Throughout the years, Shepherd has added employee benefits and financial services to continue to meet the needs of their clients. In addition to business line growth, Shepherd has added over 35 agencies to the Shepherd family and continues to look for independent agencies that operate on the same principles in order to continue to serve our clients and the communities in which we operate.
We are proud of the culture we have created at Shepherd. We believe in treating everyone, our employees and our clients, like family. We work as a team in an environment where clients are more important than commissions, and relationships take precedence over titles. Our people are consistently recognized as the best in the business, and we have earned Top Workplace recognition for 5 years. It is a great team to work with and a great place to work!
We’re just as passionate about community service as we are about providing exceptional service. That’s why our CEO, Quinn Shepherd, started Operation Shepherding in 2011 as a year-round initiative to support the local communities where our employees and clients live and work. We encourage our team to look for opportunities to pay it forward and to be actively involved in the community. All employees are given two days off of work each year to volunteer with the organization of their choice.
